Mansons Hall Roof Project
As many folks are aware, the main hall roof has been leaking for a number of years. The SCCA had applied for different grants, including both Federal and Provincial programs but unfortunately a new roof has not qualified for funding.
The SCCA has no contingency funds or savings for major capital repairs and renovations to the community center.
The Board is pleased to inform the community that a private Foundation agreed to gift Mansons Hall with a new roof!
On behalf of islanders, the SCCA extends a big “Thank-you” to the Foundation for the kindness and generosity shown by the family, who prefer to make the gift without public recognition.
Our new roof is heavy-guage Ridgelock metal, with a lifespan of at least 50 years, so future generations will also be dry during rain storms. We have sufficient funds in the budget to cover the cost of insulating the new roof as well, helping keep the Hall cosy in winter, and reducing the energy costs.
The new roof was installed by Robert Tweedie Roofing and his fearless crew, who were well organized, clean, efficient, and completed the job quickly without inconvenience to the day to day operations of the community center. Another big “Thank you” to Bob for getting the job done right, and for bringing the project to completion within our budget.
The Board is grateful for the continued support of islanders who contribute in keeping this vital community resource in good repair, for todays users and for the many years ahead. We look forward to the day when locals will be able to decide via a democratic vote if Mansons Hall Community Center is an essential part of the Cortes community, and important enough to be securely funded for the future.
